This is the umbrella term that encompasses contractors that perform utility, excavation, grading and stone work. Typically, site contractors also have project management and field surveying skills. A sitework contractor distinguishes themselves by often controlling all the work exterior to any building or other structures. Typically site contracts will also include paving, concrete curb and flatwork, and possibly the landscape portion. Some of these trades may be subcontracted but, in general, are managed and controlled by the site contractor who takes responsibility for the work. This reduces costly errors in the field caused by gaps in pricing or confusion of scopes between various subs. Sitework contractors can deliver a higher degree of tolerance and a cheaper more complete package.
