Job Summary: CDL Drivers (Class A) in asphalt paving are responsible for transporting equipment, materials, and personnel to and from job sites safely and efficiently. They play a vital role in the construction process by ensuring timely delivery of asphalt and other paving materials while adhering to traffic laws and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Safe Operation of Vehicles:
Operate commercial vehicles, including trucks and trailers, to transport asphalt paving equipment, materials, and personnel to job sites
Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while driving on public roads
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards
Material Transport:
Load and unload asphalt and other paving materials onto trucks using appropriate equipment, such as loaders or forklifts
Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit
Transport materials to job sites according to schedules provided by supervisors
Equipment Maintenance:
Perform basic maintenance tasks on vehicles, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and brakes
Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel for repairs or adjustments
Keep vehicles clean and in good condition, both inside and out
Communication and Collaboration:
Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatchers, and other team members to coordinate delivery schedules and ensure smooth operations
Work closely with asphalt paving crews to facilitate the efficient loading and unloading of materials at job sites
Provide assistance to other crew members as needed, including helping with manual labor tasks during downtime
Safety Compliance:
Follow all safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries on the job
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and ensure that it is properly worn and maintained
Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of a culture of safety within the company
Qualifications:
Ability to safely haul materials and equipment to and from job sites
Ability to properly operate, load, unload, and secure equipment
General maintenance and inventory of truck and trailer
Occasional travel throughout the state and weekend work
Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check
