CDL Drivers (Class A)

Job Summary: CDL Drivers (Class A) in asphalt paving are responsible for transporting equipment, materials, and personnel to and from job sites safely and efficiently. They play a vital role in the construction process by ensuring timely delivery of asphalt and other paving materials while adhering to traffic laws and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Safe Operation of Vehicles:
    • Operate commercial vehicles, including trucks and trailers, to transport asphalt paving equipment, materials, and personnel to job sites
    • Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while driving on public roads
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards
  2. Material Transport:
    • Load and unload asphalt and other paving materials onto trucks using appropriate equipment, such as loaders or forklifts
    • Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit
    • Transport materials to job sites according to schedules provided by supervisors
  3. Equipment Maintenance:
    • Perform basic maintenance tasks on vehicles, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and brakes
    • Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel for repairs or adjustments
    • Keep vehicles clean and in good condition, both inside and out
  4. Communication and Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatchers, and other team members to coordinate delivery schedules and ensure smooth operations
    • Work closely with asphalt paving crews to facilitate the efficient loading and unloading of materials at job sites
    • Provide assistance to other crew members as needed, including helping with manual labor tasks during downtime
  5. Safety Compliance:
    • Follow all safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries on the job
    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and ensure that it is properly worn and maintained
    • Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of a culture of safety within the company

Qualifications:

  • Ability to safely haul materials and equipment to and from job sites
  • Ability to properly operate, load, unload, and secure equipment
  • General maintenance and inventory of truck and trailer
  • Occasional travel throughout the state and weekend work
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check
