Job Summary: Asphalt paving operators and laborers are integral members of construction crews responsible for the installation and maintenance of asphalt surfaces, such as roads, parking lots, and driveways. They operate heavy machinery, handle materials, and perform manual labor to ensure high-quality paving projects are completed safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Operating Heavy Machinery:
Operate asphalt paving machines, rollers, compactors, and other heavy equipment to lay and compact asphalt surfaces according to project specifications.
Control equipment speed, direction, and distribution of asphalt material to achieve desired thickness and smoothness of the finished surface.
Perform routine maintenance checks on machinery to ensure proper functioning and identify any issues requiring repair.
Material Handling:
Load and unload trucks carrying asphalt and other paving materials using appropriate machinery or manual labor techniques.
Transport materials to work sites and distribute them as directed by supervisors.
Assist in measuring and mixing asphalt materials to achieve the required consistency and quality for paving.
Manual Labor:
Assist with manual labor tasks, such as shoveling, raking, and leveling asphalt material during the paving process.
Direct traffic and pedestrians to ensure safety around work zones.
Clean and maintain work areas to promote a safe and organized environment.
Quality Control:
Inspect paved surfaces for defects, such as cracks, bumps, or unevenness, and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired quality standards.
Monitor asphalt temperature and application rates to ensure proper curing and adhesion.
Collaborate with supervisors and quality control inspectors to identify and address any issues that may affect the integrity of the finished pavement.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries on the job site.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and use safety devices on machinery as required.
Participate in safety training programs and proactively identify potential hazards to mitigate risks.
Qualifications:
No experience necessary, we will train the right candidate.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be willing to work outside in the heat.
Occasional travel and weekends.
Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check
